Today we were going to church! I was a little nervous about going to church where I didn’t speak the language as anyone, but I was also excited!
It was great. We walked in right as worship was starting and we were greeted by lots of kisses at the door! (Everyone kisses each other on the cheek) Worship was good- I didn’t really know what I was singing, but it was still good! The Pastor’s wife came up and did a “flow” time (that’s for all the HPC people!) They honored David’s dad for being in service and prayed for a while and then it was time for the message. David would lean over to me every once in a while and tell me the basic gist of what he was preaching. Again, it was good- didn’t know everything he said- but what David was telling me about was great! Mr. Song started out ok- but by the message David had to get another chair for him to lean on- he was very tired but fought through! We were so proud of him!
The church building was very clean (considering all the construction going on around it) and it was nice! It had tile floor and bright walls and had windows at the top of the building- it was pretty. It was so great to be able to be in the church that David grew up in. It meant a lot to me.
At the end of the service the Pastor gave an altar call and the whole church went forward! Seriously. Then the Pastor called David and his dad up and prayed over his dad. It was so awesome to see the body of Christ come together and stand with him and his family. They had been looking forward to David coming to church- it had been a while since they had seen him there.
The Pastor’s wife came up to me after service and we talked a little bit (she spoke english)- and she asked if I could practice my Spanish with her. She was so sweet and so beautiful. She told me stories about David- how we won an award at school for not missing 1 day of school OR being late…from kindergarten to 12th grade! WOW! Talk about amazing discipline. That’s one of the things I love most about him. She told me about a new church they were opening up in one of the villages, and the things they were doing in that community. I love going overseas and getting a refreshed picture of the “global” God that we serve! He is everywhere and is praised in every language!
After service we drove home and had the best Chinese food ever! David’s mom had ordered Chinese for lunch, and they delivered to the house! David was telling me that everything delivers in Honduras. If you don’t deliver- you don’t make any money!
So, Sunday was our day to finish up anything we needed to do before we left. We scanned some pictures from his family albums, printed our boarding passes, and finished laundry. We were both feeling very sad that our trip was coming to an end. I knew it would be hard to leave.
We sat with his family for a while, and i prepared a little word to share with his dad to encourage him before we left. David had done such a great job taking care of his dad, and was so sweet to him and loving to him. I knew that his dad would be really sad when David left.
After dinner we just sat together and his dad tried on his outfit for our wedding. His whole family is going to wear the traditional korean outfits- which i am SO excited about! He looked so handsome. I can’t wait to see them all in 4 weeks.
Right before his dad went to bed we prayed over him and I shared something to encourage him. It was such a wonderful moment that we all had. I know that God is doing a work in his body. And he believes it too! We got ready for bed and a long day of travel ahead.
It’s been a great trip. One that I would not trade for the world.
